A historic safety milestone at Teknikum: LTIF and TRIF reach zero for the first time
Teknikum’s long-term commitment to improving occupational safety has reached a significant milestone: for the first time in the company’s history, both LTIF (Lost Time Injury Frequency) and TRIF (Total Recordable Injury Frequency) rates have reached zero.
Achieving zero accidents has been a long-standing goal at Teknikum. Reaching this milestone is the result of years of systematic work to improve safe working practices, strengthen safety competence and build a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
Building a strong safety culture over the years
One important step was taken in 2013, when Teknikum introduced its own in-house occupational safety card training. The training has helped strengthen employees’ safety competence and build a shared understanding that everyone is responsible not only for their own safety, but also for the safety of their colleagues. For several years now, holding a valid occupational safety card has been a requirement for every Teknikum employee.
The training is just one example of the work carried out over the years. Safety has become an increasingly integral part of everyday operations, with a growing emphasis on proactive measures: identifying hazards and eliminating risks before incidents occur.
More than 1,000 safety observations and improvement suggestions in 2026
The development of Teknikum’s safety culture can be seen in the active participation of our employees. In 2026, more than 1,000 safety observations and improvement suggestions have already been submitted through our reporting system – approximately five reports per employee.
The high number of observations demonstrates that potential risks are actively addressed and that our people are committed to improving safety together.
“One of the clearest signs of a strong safety culture is that people actively observe their working environment and raise even small issues that can be addressed before they develop into hazardous situations. More than a thousand safety observations and improvement suggestions show that safety is everyone’s responsibility and that our people genuinely want to contribute to making our workplace safer,” says Tero Suominen, Occupational Safety Manager at Teknikum.
A shared achievement by the entire Teknikum team
This historic result is not the achievement of a single project or individual. It is built on everyday actions: following safe working practices, addressing identified risks, making improvement suggestions and looking out for the safety of colleagues.
Reaching zero is an important milestone, but our work does not stop here. Our goal is to maintain zero accidents in the future and continue developing our operations so that everyone can return home healthy and safe at the end of each working day.
Thank you to everyone at Teknikum for your commitment and contribution to creating a safer working environment. This achievement belongs to all of us.
