Teknikum hosts political stakeholders to discuss the future of vocational education
Teknikum welcomed political stakeholders to its Sastamala site to discuss the current state and future development of vocational education in Finland. The visit was organized in cooperation with the Chemical Industry Federation of Finland as part of a broader initiative to bring policymakers and industry representatives together ahead of the 2027 parliamentary elections.
During the event, Teknikum’s CEO Jani Hämäläinen and HR Director Arja Sarkanen shared insights into the importance of vocational education for the industrial sector and the growing need for skilled professionals.
The discussion highlighted the crucial role vocational education plays in supporting the competence needs of Finnish industry. From Teknikum’s perspective, the demand for vocational skills will remain high in the future. Ensuring that education systems remain flexible and aligned with evolving industry requirements is essential for maintaining competitiveness and supporting sustainable industrial growth.
Participants also discussed the importance of strengthening overall competence levels, developing STEM-related skills within vocational education, and supporting young people’s well-being and working-life capabilities.
The visit also included a tour of Teknikum’s rubber production facilities in Sastamala, providing participants with a closer look at modern industrial manufacturing.
