Teknikum accelerates emission reductions on the path to 2030 climate targets

Teknikum has finalized its 2025 greenhouse gas emissions calculation, demonstrating a clear acceleration in emission reductions and strong progress toward its 2030 Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) goals.

The latest results show that emission reductions are not only on track but advancing faster than before, driven by a consistent and systematic approach across operations. Scope 1 & 2 emissions have now been reduced by 46% from the 2020 baseline.

Scope 1 & 2 emission reductions

-46% reduction from 2020 baseline

Teknikum has reduced its direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1 & 2) by 46% since 2020, steadily approaching its target of a 50% reduction by 2030.

This progress has been driven by:

  • Energy efficiency improvements in production facilities
  • Transition to renewable energy sources
  • Installation of energy-efficient lighting and insulation
  • Equipment upgrades reducing energy consumption

“The progress achieved in Scope 1 and 2 reflects long-term, systematic development rather than isolated measures. Emission reductions have been driven by consistent energy management, production optimization, and investments that have gradually lowered the carbon intensity across our operations,” says Esko Mäntyharju, Director of HSQE at Teknikum Group.

Scope 3 emission reductions through sustainable solutions

-55% reduction from 2020 baseline

Scope 3 emissions remain a key focus area for Teknikum. Reductions are driven through innovation in materials and product development, including:

  • Increased use of recycled and bio-based raw materials
  • TEKNICROSS® railway level crossing elements made from recycled rubber
  • Industrial hoses produced with recycled or bio-based materials

Sustainability is embedded in Teknikum’s production processes, with a strong focus on material efficiency, waste reduction, and recycling. All production sites are certified according to ISO 14001.

Updated supplier Code of Conduct

Teknikum has strengthened its sustainability commitments through an updated Supplier Code of Conduct, requiring suppliers to meet strict ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards.

“Scope 3 emission reductions are increasingly linked to product design and material choices made in close cooperation with customers. Sustainability is embedded into products and processes rather than treated as a separate initiative. Supplier responsibility is a continuous dialogue built on cooperation, transparency, and improvement,” Mäntyharju adds.

Key focus areas for continued progress

Teknikum continues to drive emission reductions through:

  • Exploring new energy sources
  • Increasing heat recovery and reducing energy consumption
  • Improving production efficiency
  • Developing low-carbon product solutions

“Progress toward 2030 will be achieved through continuous improvements — combining efficiency gains, process development, and practical innovations in everyday operations,” says Mäntyharju.

Committed to transparent sustainability reporting

Teknikum will continue to report its sustainability progress annually, ensuring transparency and accountability in achieving its 2030 SBTi targets.
