Pirkanmaan Ekonomit visited Teknikum – Discussions on sustainable industry and innovation

On October 23rd, Teknikum Group welcomed members of Pirkanmaan Ekonomit for an evening company visit at our Sastamala headquarters. The visit offered an inspiring opportunity to share insights about Teknikum’s role as a pioneer in sustainable polymer technology, as well as to discuss the company’s long history, present-day operations, and future outlook.

From heritage to modern polymer expertise

During the visit, Ilkka Nieminen, hosted the group and presented Teknikum’s background and business areas. Teknikum’s roots reach back to the year 1898, when the company was part of the original Finnish Rubber Works (Suomen Kumitehdas). In 1989, most of Nokia Corporation’s Technical Rubber business was transferred to Teknikum, forming the foundation of the company we know today.

Today, Teknikum serves industrial customers with high-performance rubber, silicone, plastic, and foam solutions tailored to demanding applications. Our operations are guided by strong values — safety, sustainability, and sincerity — and we continue to develop advanced, environmentally responsible polymer technologies for global industries.

A look inside the largest hose factory in the Nordics

The program included a company presentation, coffee service, and a factory tour, where guests were able to see Teknikum’s manufacturing in action. The Sastamala site houses the largest industrial hose factory in the Nordics, producing reliable and durable hoses for mining, energy, and process industries.

Visitors learned how Teknikum’s in-house R&D, local manufacturing, and customer-oriented design ensure long-lasting, safe, and sustainable solutions for industrial needs. The discussions also highlighted the importance of collaboration and continuous innovation in maintaining competitiveness in global markets.

Strength through collaboration

The evening sparked many interesting discussions about leadership, innovation, and the role of sustainability in Finnish manufacturing. Teknikum wishes to thank Pirkanmaan Ekonomit for their interest and active participation.

“We appreciate opportunities like this to share ideas with professionals who value both technology and sustainability. It’s through dialogue and cooperation that we can drive meaningful change”, said Ilkka Nieminen.

We extend our warm thanks to all visitors for a great evening and look forward to continued collaboration with the local business community.
